The Wingless Angel

Ex-Army Medic, Silton, has had a rough go of late. Soon after being discharged from the military his wife suffered a tragic accident, then slipped into a coma and died. Now alone, drinking fills his days, and restless sleep plagues his nights.

He feels that God is finished with him, that he has no purpose in life, so he ends it all.

He falls. Naked and confused, he falls.

Silton awakens on a taught expanse of warm Skin Land. Acrid air stings his lungs, tiny hairs jut up like grass under his feet, and the pale blue eye of Heaven stares down on him.

In the distance he hears a scream, and as he bounds towards it, finds a fetid swamp of others who have fallen, sinking into the soupy flesh. Quick to his training Silton pulls a woman out of the mess, only to find her legs ravaged with breaks. Using his medical skills and the flesh around him, he binds her injuries, easing her pain.

Far off in the distance, on their huge moving home called the Sled, a group of demons set off on a journey out into the Skin Land to harvest those lucky enough to survive the fall. Those like Silton.

Silton drags his newfound friend to a distant shelter of bone as they share the reflections of life that have brought them here. With each step the mystery of this place unfolds revealing its true beauty, and its terrifying reality.

As the demons draw near, and the pale blue eye of Heaven watches above, it becomes clear that God is not finished with Silton. God has a new purpose for him, a purpose for him in Hell.

“Sin follows the sinner, it does not lead them.”

Q&A with Author Harmon Cooper
  • I understand you recently formed an exclusive audiobook publishing deal with Podium Publishing. How pumped are you about that?!
    • I’ve been following Podium for years and am excited to bring my genre-bending form of fantasy fiction to an even larger listening audience. It’s an absolute honor and pleasure to have the behemoth of audio publishing producing the Death’s Mantle series. It’s going to be wild, it’s going to be jarringly awesome, and with Andrea Parsneau narrating it, Death’s Mantle will be one audio trilogy that is going to stick with listeners for years to come.
  • Tell us about the process of turning your book into an audiobook.
    • My process is dependent on how the piece will be produced, whether there will be added music or sound effects, or if it is single narrator. I write with the audio in mind. For Death’s Mantle, I wanted Andrea Parsneau to narrate it from the start. Since I began the book in 2018, Andrea as narrator in my mind.
  • Do you believe certain types of writing translate better into audiobook format?
    • I don’t know about this one. Part of me wants to say yes, but also there are some amazing narrators out there who can bring anything to life.
  • Was a possible audiobook recording something you were conscious of while writing?
    • Yes, and it has been since 2016. I come from a music background, and once I started to understand how audiobook narrating works, and saw the similarities, it just clicked for me.
  • How did you select your narrator?
    • I select narrators based on tone and skill, their availability and if they have a listener following.
  • How closely did you work with your narrator before and during the recording process? Did you give them any pronunciation tips or special insight into the characters?
    • I try to select narrators who understand my work and the natural flow. I let them do their job with little commenting unless asked. If there are pronunciation things, either I prepare a document, or professional narrators follow-up with questions.
  • Were there any real life inspirations behind your writing?
    • Always and forever. The more I write, and I’m coming to my fiftieth book being published in January, the more I see that my writings are based on things I enjoyed in my childhood mixed with adult experiences.
  • What bits of advice would you give to aspiring authors?
    • Just keep going at it. If I had quit when a) people told me my work was bad, b) when my work didn’t sell, c) or when I project I had slaved over fell apart, I wouldn’t have made it as an author. I have a long way to go, but I continue to be relentless regarding this pursuit. Be relentless, but be so within reason.
  • Do you have any tips for authors going through the process of turning their books into audiobooks?
    • If it’s your first book, go with a publisher if one reaches out to you. Listen to other audiobooks. Know, at least some, about narrators. And most importantly, realize that just because you don’t listen to audiobooks doesn’t mean millions and millions of people don’t listen to audiobooks. Expand your horizons even if they don’t directly apply to the way you consume media.
  • What’s next for you?
    • Way of the Immortals 3, my xianxia cultivation series, followed by Death’s Mantle 2, followed by House of Dolls 5, a superhero thriller I need to wrap up. Then, it’s time for some new stuff, and what I have in store for 2020 and pushing into 2021 should really please audio listeners and readers alike.

The Descendants Series

The Descendants
The Descendants Series Book 1
by Destiny Hawkins
Genre: Dark Fantasy
Fail the tests and become a slave.
Display defectiveness and be put to death.
Monroe Academy was built to separate the weak from the strong. Pass the biyearly leveling and be released into society upon graduation. Fail to be promoted and be stripped of rank and forced into servitude.
That was a rule that applied to all but Rayah Bardeau. A student of Monroe Academy, branded as a Null because of her absence of Lighter energy. With her mother standing as a slave in her place, Rayah was given until the age of twenty to make level six, but at nineteen-years-old and with only eight months until her twentieth birthday, she was only a mere level one. The same level she’s been since she was ten.
With the stress of her upcoming test, the loss of a friend, and the constant wrongdoings towards her, Rayah could only dream of escaping from Lytonia, and escape she did. Only, when she awakened in her dorm, she couldn’t distinguish if she had only dreamt of meeting Soren, a wild and adventurous defect in the Wild Lands, or if she had somehow used her Lighter Form to get there.
But only the elite ― the most powerful of Lighters ―
could tap into their Lighter Forms. Right?
And what was the dark energy she used when she and Soren were attacked by Depleters? Was Rayah really as powerless as she thought? Was she a defect? And if she used dark energy, could she call herself a Lighter at all?
Bestselling author Destiny Hawkins brings you the first installment of a gripping dark fantasy where a powerless girl must survive in a society that doesn’t accept the weak…or the defective.
“When I started reading this book I was not prepared for the sheer level of adventure I would experience. This book is along the same lines as the Divergent series, and just as action packed!” ★★★★★
“Given how many books I read, it’s not often I can say that I haven’t seen something before, but this storyline is unlike anything I’ve read.” ★★★★★
“This is completely different from what I’m used to reading….but I definitely fell in love with this world that Destiny Hawkins created.” ★★★★★
**Only $1.50!!**
The Calling
The Descendants Series Book 2
She was given a second chance to prove that she could fall in line, but with her lack of power, that would be impossible.
Rayah’s entire life, she’d always been different from everyone else, and in Lytonia, being different was treated as a crime, but in her case, she was granted a pass.
In only a few months, she had to present her abilities to the council and prove to them that she was worthy of walking the halls of Monroe Academy, but Artemis, her tormentor and superior officer, would stop at nothing to keep her from excelling. Being powerless and not proving herself meant that she would be transitioned into a slave, and Artemis would become her master.
What Rayah realized was that she wasn’t as powerless as she thought. For weeks she had been able to do things that only the elite lighters could do, and even though this meant that she was strong, it made her more different than she could have ever imagined. Rayah went from being weak to possibly being as strong as a Gods Daughter, and she couldn’t tell anyone.
The standard colors of a Lytonians powers are white, royal blue, and turquoise blue.
Hers were black…
Bestselling author Destiny Hawkins brings you the second installment of a gripping dark fantasy where a powerless girl must survive in a society that doesn’t accept the weak…or the defective.

I’m a young author from Chicago, I’m hoping to bring some new heat and sizzle to the romance genre.
My favorite genres are paranormal and dark romance. I love reading a good book but I’m so busy in life that I only get to enjoy audio books. Its the only way I can get lost in a good book nowadays. And you know what? I half prefer an audio book over print any day! I have a long standing membership at Audible.com and I plan to publish audio books for busy bookworms like myself! Yay!
My love of writing started when a friend of mine encouraged me to write a short story and just see what happens. Turns out I had a knack for writing because everyone loved my short stories. From then on I have worked on improving my craft. Growing from flash fictions to novellas. I am really looking forward to sharing all the twisty goodness I have planned!
Thank you & Much love and Sizzle!

Scions

Scions
The Scribe Cycle #3
by James Wolanyk
Genre: Dark Fantasy
Pub Date: 4/9/19
Three years have passed since the devastation of Golyna. Anna, once the maker of immortals, continues to fight the evil she unwillingly created through her rune-carving magic. Secreted away in an isolated mountain monastery, she works as a teacher to young scribes, guiding them toward runes that foster peace rather than endless war. So when the tracker who murdered her brother comes to Anna’s redoubt, begging for his eternal runes to be undone, Anna agrees to grant his wish on one condition—that he aid her in rooting out the remnants of Volna, a genocidal regime bent on destruction.
In this brave new world where old foes can become allies, so too can former friends sour into deadly enemies. With the tracker’s help, Anna is propelled into a confrontation with Ramyi, her former apprentice. Grown bitter and disillusioned, Ramyi now wants to lay waste to the world—but not before she completes an apocalyptic ritual that could have dire consequences for all of existence. To stop Ramyi from unleashing chaos, and restore peace to a broken world, Anna must be willing to make the ultimate sacrifice.
Schisms
The Scribe Cycle #2
Three long years have passed since Anna, First of Tomas, survived the purge in Malijad after being forced to use her scribe sigils to create an army of immortals. Safely ensconced in the shelter of the Nest, a sanctuary woven by one of her young allies, Anna spends her days tutoring the gifted yet traumatized scribe, Ramyi—and coming to terms with her growing attachment to an expatriate soldier in her company.
Away from her refuge, war drums continue to beat. Thwarted in her efforts to locate the elusive tracker and bring him to justice, Anna turns to the state of Nahora and its network of spies for help. But Nahoran assistance comes with a price: Anna must agree to weaponize her magic for the all-out military confrontation to come.
Dispatched to the front lines with Ramyi in tow, Anna will find her new alliances put to the test, her old tormentors lying in wait, and the fate of a city placed in her hands. To protect the innocent, she must be willing to make the ultimate sacrifice. For even in this season of retribution, the gift of healing may be the most powerful weapon of all.
Scribes
The Scribe Cycle #1
Pawns in an endless war, scribes are feared and worshipped, valued and exploited, prized and hunted. But there is only one whose powers can determine the fate of the world . . .
Born into the ruins of Rzolka’s brutal civil unrest, Anna has never known peace. Here, in her remote village—a wasteland smoldering in the shadows of outlying foreign armies—being imbued with the magic of the scribes has made her future all the more uncertain.
Through intricate carvings of the flesh, scribes can grant temporary invulnerability against enemies to those seeking protection. In an embattled world where child scribes are sold and traded to corrupt leaders, Anna is invaluable. Her scars never fade. The immunity she grants lasts forever.
Taken to a desert metropolis, Anna is promised a life of reverence, wealth, and fame—in exchange for her gifts. She believes she is helping to restore her homeland, creating gods and kings for an immortal army—until she witnesses the hordes slaughtering without reproach, sacking cities, and threatening everything she holds dear. Now, with the help of an enigmatic assassin, Anna must reclaim the power of her scars—before she becomes the unwitting architect of an apocalyptic war.
James Wolanyk is the author of the Scribe Cycle and a teacher from Boston. He holds a B.A. in Creative Writing from the University of Massachusetts, where his writing has appeared in its quarterly publication and The Electric Pulp. After studying fiction, he pursued educational work in the Czech Republic, Taiwan, and Latvia. Outside of writing, he enjoys history, philosophy, and boxing. His post-apocalyptic novel, Grid, was released in 2015. He currently resides in Riga, Latvia as an English teacher.
