Risk Management

I’ve been taking Darvacet / Darvon for 19 years.  It is the only pain killer that has given me relief from the arthritis, gout, bent bone etc pain that I suffer.  Now Darvacet has been taken off the market.  Apparently it causes heart issues.
So far the docs have tried one other pain med, Tramaldol, which I of course had a reaction to.  I’m also allergic to codeine so can’t take Tylenol with codeine.  I have an appointment with the docs in two weeks to try to find a different med.
In the meanwhile what the heck am I supposed to do?  I have two prescriptions at home I can’t take for pain.  One could cause heart issues and the other could cause seizures.  Which risk do I want to take?  On my bad days, Tylenol/Advil etc doesn’t touch my arthritis pain.  Being immersed in hot water helps, however, I’m pretty sure that I can’t work while sitting in a hot tub.  It might be awkward to say the least…
Anyone got any home remedies?  I already drink cranberry / cherry juice to help with my gout.  I will increase that intake.  I’m trying to lose weight by going to the pool to work out.  Love the pool time but with the cold / inclement weather it is harder to go to the pool.
When we have a week of weather – lots of snow – then I hurt.  Today I sit at my desk and every joint in my body hurts.  I can’t close my hands into fists because my hands hurt so much.  Sitting up straight is too painful.
In all of this I try to remember that it is just pain and will pass.  Eventually the weather will change, the pain meds will help, or my joints will be warm enough that they will stop hurting.  I now there are people out there with much worse situations than I have.  This will get better.  For now all I can do is curl up under the quilt my daughter made with love and hope the pain eases sooner rather than later.

  1. Eileen… as for the gout, my man takes allopurinol everyday. Just one pill every morning and he hasn't had a gout attack in 5 yrs. It's a medication that has been around for a long time and has relatively few side effects. I'm surprised your doctor hasn't told you about it. The only other thing I might advise about the arthritis is one of those things you can buy at the drug store that heat up and then velcro to your back, leg, or wherever you have the problem. The stay warm for several hours.

  2. Kat: I'll take the name of that drug to my doc and see what he says. My gout only really acts up when I eat too much chocolate, skip my cherry juice, or don't take my Celebrex. The arthritis pain is what I struggle with – moreso now that I won't have my reliable pain killer. The Therma Care (and the store brands like them) help sort of but not really. Plus it is hard to wrap them around my toes and fingers… LOL.. I use them when I can though…

    Thanks for the suggestions..

    Eileen

  3. Hi to friends of the DragonLady. I too have old injuries, rheumatoid and osteo arthritic problems. Vitamin D3 is recognized by both allopathic and alternate Doc's as good for arthritic and immune problems. Mg (magnesium) is vital to over 200 metabolic processes, it is not absorbed well by the body but you can obtain a nanoMg or use products that allow you to absorb through the skin. Mg is good for gouty conditions, diabetics, neurological problems, high BP etc. I have found it to be a life saver for numerous body problems. Go to http://www.globallight.net/ and check out their numerous products for better living. Miracle II products, Magnesium products, (I swear by NanoMg) Living Clay, Water transformation products are all gentle but have improved my health. They have some newer ones I would love to try but not enough of that old green stuff, I am looking into the Liquid Mannna products, they can be used externally and for drinking too. Cannot afford yet. Try the alternate site
http://www.ProductsKnowledge.info where you can research information for numerous health problems, GLN has to be super careful about how information is reported or the FDA can shut them down. I have utilized many of their products and they are good people to work with. They are lightworkers and share spiritual information and encouragement too.
I also have used several products from http://www.naturecity.com/?gclid=CLDRmJyunqcCFcTb4Aod0lXsKw
which greatly decreased my pain levels and improved my digestive problems. True Aloe and Alatoin HA are excellent products, the Alatoin HA is a multicomplex of natural herbal products that decrease inflammation and reduce pain, increase the level of lubricant that keeps the joints working better. I am a former nurse and I investigate products and I was really impressed by the medical literature on the ingredients in Alatoin HA, it also uses a natural rather than synthetic ??? microlactin?? product that is in pharmaseutical drugs.
Investigate water also, there are many water transformation products available, hyperoxygenated water, products which affect the shape, density etc. If you have any doubt as to what water can do for you go to the following sites and read about the Miraculous Messages from Water. FANTASTIC, you will never look at water the same again.http://www.wellnessgoods.com/messages.asp
Well I hope that perhaps some of the things I have mentioned may be helpful to you in living a better life with less pain. I have lived in chronic pain for about 25 years and it can control everything you do. I am fortunate that in the last 18 months to finally have seen some decrease in pain levels. Marjorie

  4. Thanks Marjorie… I do like to do the natural healing first but unfortunately right now – there are NO funds for anything extra. Until this issue is settled I am busy trying to pay off as much as I can. I got my federal returns and paid off three bills. It feels great but I know it won't help much if I end up losing my job – or even end up paying more for other things… I'll keep all of these in mind as time and money permits… thank you for being so caring as to share…
