by Anna Hackett

Hackett dives into the darkness of vengeance. Georgie’s world has fallen apart. Her parents died, her brother died, and now an unscrupulous man hurt and killed her sister. It’s the end of the rope for Georgie. She only thinks of one thing – getting vengeance on the man who took her sister. Her brother told her before he died, if she ever needed anything to go to his best friend Nash. But he disappeared into black ops and she doesn’t know where he is.
Nash is a retired assassin. He left the military and longed for his now dead best friend’s little sister but he was too tainted to go to her. Instead, he’s living a quiet life in Las Vegas with other retired (mostly) assassins. Until someone shows up at the casino asking for him.
Tracking down this person, he’s shocked to find Georgie about to kill a man. Shocked, he tells her to go home – tries to scare her into a classic life.
Hackett dives into some dark topics and Georgie isn’t your typical helpless female waiting to be rescued. I enjoyed reading most of this. The ending was a little predictable and the epilogue was sugary sweet too perfect for this dark series.
The writing is – as always – great. The character building is good. The setting is unique. I enjoyed reading this until I read the epilogue. The grittiness of the story appealed and the uniqueness of the situation hit a good mark. But the epilogue was all light and perfect life. It was too much. I would have preferred it to be less perfect and more like the story.
