When did you know you wanted to be an author?
I’ve always enjoyed writing and can’t remember a time I haven’t written. I wrote my first short novel, Wobbles – The Wonderful Dog, when I was 9 years old. In 2014, after years within management I decided to write and publish my first major novel; Pages Of Your Life – The Secret Life Of Shirley Rumming. Since then I have averaged one novel per year, except for a period after my father passed away. There’s no surprise that when we experience loss, particularly a death that we see the world differently. My paper people as I like to call my characters went to sleep, and I took priceless time out for family. It was during this period that I decided to write The Belonging; a story about life, one involving loss and grief, hopes and dreams, faith and miracles.
What genres do you like to read? Are these the same genres you write in?
When it comes to reading, I am open minded as I believe books are like people, they all have something to offer. Although I do favour contemporary fiction, probably because they depict our world and society, embracing diversity and reflecting different cultural views.
In regards to my writing, while there has been a persistent sentiment among publishers and agents in the traditional publishing world to stick to one genre, I have not pigeon-holed myself. My stories are about personal experience. My first novel, Pages Of Your Life – The Secret Life Of Shirley Rumming was historical fiction and formed the basis for my, “Secrets Trilogy.” I’ve also written mystery, thriller, suspense and contemporary fiction. Why? Because stories about life are varied, stories about life can’t be pigeon-holed.
Is your book for adults, young adults or children?
My latest book is generally for adults and young adults. It’s a journey of understanding that deals with issues most can relate to; death, confronting personal problems and coming to understand yourself.
What is your current release or project?
My latest release is a contemporary fiction, “The Belonging.”
Tell us about the key characters
The story is centered around four unforgettable characters who are entwined in each other’s lives, yet somewhat lost in their own. The broken-hearted, the manipulative and the unsuspecting souls continually searching and yearning for answers.
We all want to love and be loved. We want to be safe. We want our loved ones to be safe. Some people simply want money and are guided by materialistic possessions, but all of us want acceptance and a sense of belonging.
Robert, the protagonist is grieving after the death of his wife and struggling to come to terms with everything. This story is about his journey in discovering the truth and meaning of his own existence. Will he find peace, and understanding?
What is your blurb or synopsis of the book?
You never know who, or what, will change your life until it happens.
After the death of his wife, home health care worker Robert Jackson must re-evaluate his life in Sydney. Facing an uphill battle with grief, he contemplates suicide.
However, his wife’s best friend Shirley won’t let him give up. But how well does he really know this caring neighbour? And what about the eccentric recluse and the pretentious middle-aged woman whose path he is destined to cross? Appearances can be deceiving.
The Belonging is a story of four broken souls thrown together by chance and one man’s journey to discover the truth and meaning of his own existence.

Elsie leaned forward with her hands flat on the table and fingers fanned. “You need to accept your loss of Julie, and release yourself from this blame, otherwise it will consume you. You need to let it go.”
Robert’s eyes widened; obviously shocked by the forcefulness of her words. Taking a deep breath, it was time for a change in tone. She touched his hand again. This time, Robert didn’t pull away. Instead he sat still, staring eyes filled with tears.
She leaned closer. “I don’t say this to be harsh, I have known loss and the finger of condemnation has firmly pointed towards me. For years the hands of darkness strangled my hope, and I was haunted by the demons from my past. But this is life. No one is perfect.” She paused and shook her head. “We are our own worst cynics, and while we cannot change what has happened or forget the pain and sadness we have endured, we must learn to forgive.” She paused again and gently squeezed Robert’s hand. Robert nodded as tears flowed.
Elsie wiped her nose and sniffed back her sadness. “Forgiveness is incredibly powerful, Robert, it doesn’t mean condoning, excusing or forgetting. Forgiveness opens our hearts to hope and peace, self-forgiveness allows us to move forward.”
Robert pulled his hand away and readjusted his tie as he straightened himself on the chair. Picking up the napkin he recommenced his folding.
Elsie leaned back and smiled. “Birds.” She picked up her teacup and chuckled.
“What?” Robert placed the napkin onto the table, pushing his hand on top he pressed on his folds.
“You and I are like two injured birds, you want to fix my wings so I can glide through life,” Elsie said, taking another sip of her tea and smiling over the rim. The corners of her lips rose. “At my age and with my condition, gliding would be a wonderful gift. But I have to be realistic. The best this little birdie can expect is to hop and flutter. Maybe I’m an injured canary.” She paused placing her teacup back on the saucer.
She gazed into his eyes. “But for you, Robert, you are young, your wings may have been damaged and you may have crashed, but your wings can be repaired.” Elsie gave him a small smile. “For you, recovery is possible. You are an eagle, strong with a powerful heart. You, young man, can fly. You can glide and soar. You just have to have the courage to spread your wings. Looking back is holding you back. You need to look forward, to the horizon. Have faith, and you will take off.”
Elsie didn’t expect Robert would respond, that wasn’t what she wanted. Her only hope was he would listen, that he would take on what she believed was so vital. Her biggest fear was he would leave for the day and never return.
Do you have a favorite scene?
My best-loved scenes involve the discussions and interactions between Robert and Elsie. Elsie is older and wiser and has a different perspective on life.
What advice would you give a beginner?
Write about things you know and can relate to. Never give up on your dreams. Never throw what you’ve written away, an undeveloped idea from today may turn into a masterpiece at a later stage.

Kimberly McKay
Kimberly and I met on a group and had a wonderful conversation off the group with both of discussing different options for marketing.
Author Bio
Kimberly’s first book, Finding Kylie, was published in 2008. It received numerous positive reviews and was converted into a screenplay, with the help of award-winning film producer, John Schwab. They are now in the process of making their final edits before hitting the film market.
Subsequently, she’s released five more books: Facing Redemption, Coming Home, Saving Grace, Second Chances, Endless possibilities and Dangerous Visions. The first four of her books are a part of The Forgiveness Series. Second Chances is her only standalone novel. While Endless Possibilities and Dangerous Visions begins The Spiritual Gifts Series.
Currently, Kimberly is getting ready to release the third book in the spiritual gifts series. Blind Instincts should release by the end of 2020. Kimberly also has a new faith-based script she’s shopping out called ‘Miss Givings.’
Tell us about yourself.
I’m a military brat who has lived overseas and from coast to coast. I’ve been in Oklahoma City for close to 30 years. I’m happily married with one son. I’m a screenwriter as well as an author.
When did you know you wanted to be an author?
I have been a storyteller since I could pick up a crayon and draw. I knew I wanted to be an author when I won the ‘best author’ award for my school district when I was asked to enter a writing contest by my teacher. I wrote my first book, won the award, and was hooked.
What genres do you like to read? Are these the same genres you write in?
I prefer clean reads without graphic sex scenes or too much language. I love romantic suspense and contemporary romance. I enjoy a good mystery from time to time. I am a multi-genre author, so yes, I also write romantic suspense. I also write Christian fiction, paranormal romance, and family saga. My latest release also falls into the action-adventure category.
Is your book for adults, young adults or children?
My books are for those that are 16+
What is your current release or project?
My WIP is the third book in my Spiritual Gifts Series. Blind Instincts is halfway done but by no means close to being done. We all know we will write, re-write and write again. I also have three original scripts that I’ve been shopping out. One of my books is optioned which means it’s under contract for a film but still hasn’t found funding yet. It may get produced – or it may not. Either way, it’s an honor that someone wanted to try.
Tell us about the key characters
Agent Anderson Evans is the All American male, yet under all the layers he’s built for himself he is tender-hearted. If I had to give him a motto – it would be ‘I’ll die trying.’ He’s hardworking, thrives off adrenaline, and truly loves his job. He and his partner are more like brothers, and he loves his family as every good son should. Savannah Miles is a feisty ‘I am female hear me roar’ girl with a soft spot for the underdog. She’s tough but tender but doesn’t let most people in to know that about her. She’s a successful entrepreneur with a secret penchant for singing and is as directionally challenged as they come.
What is your blurb or synopsis of the book?
After awakening from a coma, Agent Anderson Evans struggles to see things clearly as visions plague him throughout the day. The only way to distance himself from his premonitions is to ride cross-country, where he is free from the intermittent flashes that appear from the occasional touch in the crowd. If only he could avoid the reoccurring vision of a woman struggling to survive, but she haunts him as if calling to him.
Savannah Miles never expected that by taking on another bridal client, she’d be signing her death warrant. She soon finds herself caught up in an elaborate underworld that has her fleeing for her life under the dark of night. After barely escaping with her life, Savannah calls her cousin for help, who arranges for a bodyguard. Only she didn’t expect anyone like Anderson and didn’t have a clue that the two of them would be in over their heads.
Could Anderson’s visions become the divine intervention they need to overcome the curse in their lives? Or will the pair run out of luck, out of time, and find themselves at a dead-end?

Savannah would never forget the day she stepped into the dimly lit club. The music vibrated so loudly, it pulsated within her chest as well as everywhere else throughout her body.
A bright purple haze illuminated the stage as a young girl who couldn’t have been more than seventeen, slid to her knees to give the front row a show. When Savannah saw her, her mouth dropped.
“See something you like?” She heard a raspy voice from behind.
Although he intended to sneak up on her, the stench of stale beer and cigars gave him away. Savannah spun to face him, thinking he must have been at least seven feet tall. His square jaw and crooked nose gave him the appearance of an extreme fighter.
“No. I’m here for Jade.” Savannah cleared her throat.
When he said nothing in reply, Savannah pursed her lips and waited. His gaze slid down her body as if he were memorizing every detail.
Her first instinct was to flee to her car for safety, but she stood her ground, refusing to let him intimidate her.
Finally, he nodded toward a dark hallway to the left. “Back there. Third door on the right. Don’t enter the one on the left. It’s off-limits.”
Savannah nodded and backed away, eager to put as much distance between them as possible. As she turned toward the back of the club, he grabbed her by the arm and spun her around.
Do you have a favorite scene?
I have many favorite scenes. Because Anderson is a spy – I had to create all sort of fantastic gadgets and figure out how they applied to the storyline. Each scene where I inserted something that was completely made up but could be a reality became my favorite scene. Invent something new and inserting into a storyline was so fun.
What advice would you give a beginner?
To never give up! And when the time is right – and you’re just about ready to publish find a set of beta-readers to help you polish, give you critical feedback, and push you to get better.

Zia Westfield
Zia Westfield is the next contributor to Black Velvet Seductions Mystic Desire. Her short story is a paranormal shifter romance.
Author Bio
Zia Westfield creates suspenseful, exciting stories with romance at the heart of them. There is nothing more thrilling than watching two people fall in love despite the odds and the danger surrounding their every move.
She makes her home in Tokyo with her husband and three sons. She holds a full-time job, volunteers too much because she doesn’t know how to say “no,” and generally finds peace between the pages of a book or when she’s writing out the stories in her head.
Tell us about yourself.
I’m an Italian-American with the noisy family that comes with that and have lived in Japan for many years. My husband is Japanese with all the traditions and rules of that culture. It makes for interesting times at our house! We’ve raised three boys, who are university age, so I’m preparing for an empty nest soon. During the day I teach English as a foreign language to university students, a job that keeps me hopping. At night, I try to write whenever I can before I faceplant after a long day. I love walking along the beach, being with family, and watching Hallmark mysteries. I’m a sucker for a good romance and mystery. 🙂
When did you know you wanted to be an author?
My nose was always stuck in a book when I was a child. I think it was probably middle school or high school that the idea of writing a story glimmered as a possibility. But authors seemed like magical people with incredible imaginations. How could I possibly do something like that? It took many years and motherhood to give me the courage to actually try bringing the characters in my mind to life.
What genres do you like to read? Are these the same genres you write in?
Mystery (especially cozy mysteries). Romantic Suspense. Paranormal Romance. I write in Romantic Suspense and Paranormal Romance. I haven’t tried to write a cozy mystery yet, but I think it would be a fun genre to work in.
Is your book for adults, young adults or children?
Mystic Desire is an anthology of short paranormal romance stories for adults.
What is your current release or project?
Mystic Desire is out now! Woo hoo! In October, the next book in my Deadly Encounter series, Killer Deceptions will release.
Tell us about the key characters
Bewitching the Wolf is my story in Mystic Desire. Alice Humphreys is a witch who is loyal, hardworking and determined to remain single. Brodie MacEwan is a wolf shifter who believes in the ties of family and the soul-deep connection to the one woman fated to be his mate. When the two meet, it’s sparks all around!
What is your blurb or synopsis of the book?
Alice Humphreys has poured her heart and soul into creating a magical B&B where guests experience their fantasy vacation in their dreams. When Brodie MacEwan arrives looking for a room, she gives him his choice of the adventure room, the relaxation room or the romance room. There is something all too predatory about the Scotsman and he makes her body tingle in places it shouldn’t!
Brodie has been sent to investigate the mysterious death of his uncle. He never expects to discover his mate in his dreams. But is the illusion real? As he moves closer to identifying the woman his soul is bound to, he must deal with a grumpy leprechaun, a ghostly terrier, bumps in the night, and musical bedrooms. Any other wolf shifter would turn tail and run, but Brodie never gives up when he’s in pursuit and never when the stakes are so high!

An hour later, they were sitting around the table. Despite Alice’s best intentions, she had ended up next to Brodie. With every spoonful of Aunt Cora’s stew, she inhaled Brodie’s scent to the point that if someone has asked how the food tasted, she would have replied “wild with a dash of the outdoors.”
A loud crash from above caused Alice to spill stew on her shirt. Oggie snatched the wine from the table, cradling it in the crook of his arm. “ ʼTis an earthquake,” he bellowed. Puddles popped into the room and ran toward them, but as Brodie stood up, Puddles skidded to a stop, yelped and poofed away.
Alice wiped off the sauce trailing down her shirt, then tossed her napkin on the table. “I’ll go see what happened.” She addressed Brodie, grateful to escape his presence. “Please enjoy Aunt Cora’s amazing apple pie for dessert.”
Brodie nodded towards Aunt Cora. “Please save me a piece. I’ll go with your niece.” He scraped back his chair and stood, his gray eyes darkened with a swirl of emotion she didn’t understand but that sent a shiver down her back.
She led the way up the stairs, aware of him behind her the whole way. When she reached the room directly above the dining room, he moved in front of her.
“What room is this?” he asked in a low rumble.
She dropped her own voice in response. “Henry Duncan’s study. Nothing has been touched. Aunt Cora wouldn’t allow it.”
He nodded and, standing to the side, opened the door slowly and then pushed it fully open. He stepped inside and, after peering in, Alice followed. She noted that Brodie had no problem maneuvering in the darkness. For her own sake, she hit the lights.
The French windows to the balcony were open; the curtains billowed into the room with drops of wind and rain. Alice hurried across to thrust the large windows closed, locking the handles. She turned and surveyed the room. A pile of books lay on the floor next to the desk.
“These books must have tumbled off when the windows blew open,” Alice said.
Brodie nodded. He prowled the room like a predator, the movement of his muscles mesmerizing and completely unacceptable. He was her guest—a guest who was cutting up her peace of mind.
“Well, that should do it. Shall we go back?”
Brodie glanced at her, his gaze more silvery than gray. “Not yet.”
Alice frowned. She was about to remind him that he was a guest in the house when Puddles popped out from behind a bookcase, ran over to a large armchair situated near a standing lamp and sniffed the rug.
“What’s the dog’s name?” Brodie asked, everything about him on alert.
Puddles stiffened. His head came up, and tucking his tail beneath his legs, he scampered back towards the bookcase.
“It’s Puddles.” She tapped her chin with her finger. “He seems afraid of you. I wonder why,” she added dryly.
He ignored her. He barked out something in a language she didn’t understand, except for the word Puddles, and darn if that dog didn’t turn around and obediently trot over to the man.
Brodie squatted down and, holding the dog’s gaze, appeared to hold silent communication with the Scottish terrier. Puddles’s tail began whipping side to side with increasing vigor. He let out a yip, ducked his head, and then disappeared.
“Humph,” Alice sounded, crossing her arms. “What was that all about?”
Brodie rose and, once again, seemed to draw all the energy in the room towards him. But the predator in him had receded, the silvery shade of his eyes back to slate gray.
“Puddles said that Henry wanted a book to read,” Brodie said, his mouth quirking upwards.
Alice stared at him in horror. “Do you mean I have a second ghost?” Alice looked up at the ceiling and then shook her fist at it. “Henry Duncan,” she shouted. “You broke Aunt Cora’s heart!”
Brodie’s mouth dropped open. “Lass, he’s dead.”
“That’s no excuse.” She brushed past him, pausing only long enough to say, “I want a slice of pie before Oggie eats it all. Are you coming?” She marched out the door and thought about how Aunt Cora had cried for days after Henry passed on. Her aunt was wrong. Men dumped, deceived and died. So no matter Brodie MacEwan’s good looks and her traitorous body’s responses, she was standing strong.
Do you have a favorite scene?
I love the scenes Oggie is in. His way with words makes me smile every time I read them. I also can’t help enjoying the fight Alice puts up to hold back the inevitable.
What advice would you give a beginner?
Keep writing! There is no magic formula. Writing is a craft and like any skill, it takes constant practice and a lot of perseverance to reach The End.

Nyxie Mars
Nyxie Mars and I met through social media. We’re on a lot of the same groups.
Author Bio
Nyxie Marrs is a newly published author. Dabbling in the mystery and suspense genre, but doesn’t limit herself to just that. Reading books of all genres can spark an inspiration. (Writing them is a different story.)
With a brief, (several years) hiatus, writing is back in her life with more ideas than she can jot down. There are several books in the works, and only a few to be published. Writing, researching, and editing between the multiple books sounds daunting, (and often is) it keeps her on her toes.
With the passion of creativity constantly coursing, these characters have a mind of their own. Often times, an idea hits her and she scrambles to write it down. ‘Storing’ that new book info in one of those genius places you’ll never forget (like memory) can fail, so scrambling to write everything down is a major must.
She takes the good with the bad and keeps a positive outlook on everything. Nothing will stop her from sharing her books, created worlds, and odd characters with the world.
Tell us about yourself
I’m a wife, and a mother of one living in California. I enjoy the rainy days, but the sunny weather permits more outdoor activities.
I love to hike and walk through nature trails. Inspiration hits me no matter where I’m at, but the quiet of nature does help my mind relax and I am able to recenter myself. Along with that, I am an amateur photographer, and archery is one of my favorite activities. In my free time, which doesn’t happen often, is when I find time to write. It’s a good thing I can type fast when a scene pops into my mind, making the most out of the opportunities I have to myself.
I have ample support from the friends and family who know I write, which helps motivate me to put my work out there.
When did you know you wanted to be an author?
I’ve always wanted to be an author, I have several pieces written that have sat for years. It’s only recently I’ve decided to push myself into publishing. Funny enough, my old writing has brought out inspiration for new books, but everything I intend to publish so far are new ideas.
What genres do you like to read? Are these the same genres you write in?
I read different types of genres. If it sounds interesting, or if the first few pages are promising, I take a chance. Not all the genres I read are what I write in, but I am noticing now, that I write in multiple genres.
Is your book for adults, young adults or children?
All my writing is for adults. There may be triggers from violent situations, there’s mild language, and suggestive statements.
What is your current release or project?
My current release is titled: Etched In Glass
It will be available September 13, 2019 in E-book and paperback on Amazon.
I have multiple projects in the works.
Tell us about the key characters
The key characters in this book are names Vega Carson, and Miles Castor. Both are investigating a series of abductions and hitting dead ends. Vega takes a bold chance and investigates while off the clock. Miles is set on finding the abductor, but doesn’t run into much information until he meets Vega.
Her determination creates complications as Miles tries to help her investigate. She intends to get results no matter what it takes, and won’t let things stand in her way.
What is your blurb or synopsis of the book?
A string of abductions catch the interest of one FBI agent, Vega Carson, whose sister is a recent victim. The only clue left behind? A number etched into the bottom of a whiskey glass. With her determination to save the victims in his grasp, she does the unthinkable: Allows someone to join her risky off-hours operation to find the suspect.
Miles Castor, a detective for the local police department, needs information on a case. The last thing he thought he’d find is a powerful woman hell-bent on finding the same criminal.
It’s a struggle between them as he infiltrates her life and assists in the search.

“Sorry.” That soft voice, with concern in his eyes is all I can think about. “Are you okay? Do you need anything?”
Do I need anything? Why am I considering having someone tag along to my game of ‘catch the killer’? I shake my head and finally look him in the eyes.
“I’m fine.” Even I felt the ice from that cold tone. I need distance. This isn’t going to go well for me and I just need to stop this now. I can’t have him involved. “I think I need to go.” I stand up.
He places a hand on my shoulder as I try to walk by him. He isn’t trying to forcefully stop me, but my body stills at the contact. I close my eyes and I can feel his warmth surround me. I can’t do this. Not now.
Do you have a favorite scene?
I do have a favorite scene, but it’s towards the end of the book and I don’t want to give away spoilers.
What advice would you give a beginner?
I would say to never give up. Sounds cliche, I know, but it’s true. I gave up a while ago but always felt the need to write. Push yourself into doing something bold too. Don’t be afraid of the criticism, there will always be someone who likes your work, and others who won’t. It happens to everyone.
