When did you know you wanted to be an author?

When I kept searching for something to read and nothing sparked my interest.

What genres do you like to read?

I love horror, paranormal anything. I want an escape when I read, I don’t want something that can really happen.

Are these the same genres you write in?

My first series is a paranormal reverse harem romance with a splash of horror. A secret project of mine is a paranormal horror novel and I have a co-write in the works that will be post apocalyptic menage

Is your book for adults, young adults or children?

Definitely adults.

What is your current release or project?

Current release is Hide Little Wolf.

Tell us about the key characters

Aurora – first known dragon lycan hybrid. She’s a take no shit kind of a girl. She has a very bad temper and impulse control problems. Her sense of justice is absolute. There’s no grey area in her thinking when she’s passing judgement.

Sebastian – Lycan mate of Aurora’s. In his mind he’s an alpha and his cockyness in the beginning he pulls it off for a while. He’s literally the pack asshole / bully in a sense. He feels entitled in the sense his father was alpha and now he’s the first mate so he feels he’s above the other mates.

Dominik – Dire Wolf mate and twin to Jayce. He’s kinda very Switzerland with a lot of things. He’s an enforcer so he has a strong sense to protect. He’s not fond of Sebastian cause of his over inflated sense of self. He’ll do what he has to do to protect his mate and brother.

Jayce- Dire Wolf mate and brother of Dominik. Jayce is an absolute sweetheart. He’s perfectly in touch with his feelings and helps quell Aurora’s rage and temperament. He’s a planner and extremely thoughtful. Besides Aurora I have to admit Jayce is a favorite of mine.

What is your blurb or synopsis of the book?

My name is Aurora and I am the last of my bloodline. My family was killed by the Strigoi within moments of my birth. My life was entrusted to my Guardians Dimitri a Great Bear and Andre a Golden Eagle. We were sent through a portal to the new world to hide and protect me. We’ve spent the last two hundred years on the move like gypsies. The time has come and I’ve obtained my full power. The hunt for my mates is on. Once I succeed I will take back my mother’s throne and dance on the bones of the Strigoi.

Her head whipped up to see her father walking away, giving her his back. She’d practically been disowned by her family for the disgrace she’s brought upon them. You can tell when it clicked, when Ravenna felt she had nothing left to live for. Her wolf immediately took over, having scented me on Aurora. Within moments, the smaller black wolf was attacking the great white wolf. It’s kind of sad to say, but Aurora’s wolf looks bored. She’s playing with the smaller wolf swatting at her and tossing her across the challenge circle.

Without warning, Aurora shifted back to her mostly human form. She only left her hands and feet shifted to that of her wolf. Honestly her shifted hands and fingers look more dragon than wolf. Thick rigid white scales adorned her hands and fingers like armor. The talons at the ends of her armored hands look like velociraptor claws. Her tail still swayed behind her, showing just how relaxed she truly was. There was a defiant smirk on her lips as she stared down the pissed off black she-wolf. With a flick of her hand, she signaled for her to come at her.

As Ravenna charged, Aurora leapt up, right hand out, with talons extended. Her momentum sent her over Ravenna’s shoulder, her claws sinking into the she-wolf’s throat. Aurora’s left hand shot out and into the she-wolf’s back. In one fluid move she severed Ravenna’s head, and ripped out her heart. Thick crimson fluid sprayed the crowd as Aurora completed her finishing move. If I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes I never would have believed it.

Do you have a favorite scene?

The scene in the gladiator pit so far has to be my favorite.

What advice would you give a beginner?

Kerenza Ryan

Kerenza and I met through Twitter. We had a lovely conversation about writing and what we both work on.

Author Bio

Kerenza Ryan is a poet and writer who tells the world, sometimes loudly, about what it’s like living with schizophrenia. She works as a peer support specialist at a community mental health agency, and volunteers with the Crisis Text Line, a texting suicide hotline. All in all, her voice is caught up in helping those with mental illness. She has a poetry book out and a novel on the way, and more information can be found at www.kerenzaryan.com.

Tell us about yourself.

My name is Kerenza. I sometimes go by Ren, mostly so people don’t get awkward while trying to pronounce my name. I have a book of poetry out called “I Am Schizophrenic: Poetry From A Beautiful Brain”, but here today I would like to talk about my upcoming book, “The Romance of Psychosis”.

As you may be able to guess from my title, I enjoy writing about schizophrenia, something I personally experience and that is a part of who I am, even as it does not define me. I also enjoy volunteering with the Crisis Text Line (a suicide hotline over text) and working as a peer support specialist at a community mental health agency. Pretty much, helping the mentally ill is my life.

When did you know you wanted to be an author?

There was never a time when I didn’t want to be an author. I won a writing competition in fourth grade, made a teacher cry with a piece about my best friend moving in fifth grade, then was unremarkable for a bit until I resurrected and at sixteen and was first published, finished my first novel, and did my first poetry reading. Since I started taking things more seriously at sixteen, I’ve never stopped.

What genres do you like to read?  Are these the same genres you write in?

I mainly, but not only, read science fiction. The novel I’m currently writing is science fiction, and I’ve written a few others in that genre, but never published in it. I also read a decent amount of poetry, like my first book, and listen at open mic nights often, which I think may be the best place to display poetry.

As for my upcoming novel, which is a combination of Christian romance and psychological suspense, I’ve come into the genres more recently, in order to help me work on the book. I also read both genres as a preteen, when I read much more often because I wasn’t spending at least an hour a day writing and didn’t work full time. I hadn’t expected to write either genre, particularly Christian romance, but I think sometimes when you get a good story you have to run with it.

Is your book for adults, young adults or children?

My book is for adults. Make no mistake, though it has no sexy scenes, it has plenty of trigger warnings, mostly including graphic descriptions of delusions, hallucinations and suicide. It also has brief mentions of alcoholism. The last thing I want it to do is hurt anyone. People who have troubles with reading about people who struggle to understand reality or who cannot handle reading about suicide at this stage in their life should probably wait to read this work.

What is your current release or project?

The Romance of Psychosis

Tell us about the key characters

Hugo Sousa is a Brazilian cancer-researcher, an only child of a single mother and a fun loving Christian who does a bit of day-drinking. Julia Douglas is a hairdresser and pastor’s daughter. She had a twin who died as a young infant, and no other siblings. She hopes to settle down and have kids of her own, and can’t wait to be Mrs. Hugo Sousa.

What is your blurb or synopsis of the book?

When Brazilian cancer researcher Hugo Sousa starts seeing things that aren’t there, and believing things that aren’t true, he terrifies his fiancee Julia.

They travel together on a journey through psychosis and mood swings as Hugo becomes more and more sick. He talks to demons, has religious delusions, and believes a bomb will go off if his heart rate gets too high. While the wedding is pushed back again and again, they struggle to find medicine and therapy that will bring Hugo back to himself.

Julia follows him through a hospitalization, suicide attempts, and almost daily therapy. The hairdresser sticks with her fiance through it all, because they have been together since childhood. She only can hope that with the right treatment they will be able to get on with their lives and finally get married.

Share an excerpt

When Hugo got to his apartment, Julia was sitting in the middle of the floor, pictures of wedding dresses strewn around her. “Does this actually help you, seeing them on other people?” Hugo asked, stepping gingerly over them to his favorite spot on his massive green sofa. Still, he wouldn’t complain, after all, he had someone beautiful in front of him, trying to pick out the best outfit to look gorgeous in.

Hugo watched Julia rake her photos into a pile. Wheat colored hair framed her ceaselessly pale skin in layers of curls. Her blue-grey eyes crinkled as she concentrated, and her rolls of flesh jiggled as she moved. He was the opposite: lanky and angular, tall and dark, with a head of wavy black hair almost covering his dark brown eyes.

“I didn’t say you had to move them,” Hugo said.

“But you were thinking it. I hope you don’t mind me working here. My mother was getting a little bit too involved back at my house.”

“You have no idea how happy I am that you are here,” he said, leaning down and kissing the top of her head from where she sat on the ground. “And I want you to find the prettiest dress there is. If this is part of your process, so be it. Not that any dress could make you look any prettier than you are right now.”

“I already said yes, Hugo,” Julia said, rolling her eyes. Still, she blushed.

“I picked out the flowers. Hope you don’t mind,” he said. As soon as he said it, he could tell she minded. The pause made it hard to breathe.

“Oh.”

“It’s probably not too late to cancel the order,” he said, pulling out his phone.

“Nonsense. I’m sure whatever you picked out is beautiful,” Julia said.

“This is your wed—”

“I thought I told you to stop saying that,” Julia interrupted. “This is our wedding. I want you to be involved. I’m sure the flowers you picked out are perfect. By the way, I was thinking about tables. Your mother needs a place to sit. Generally, we’d want her up front, but she can’t be too close to my family.”

“Surely she’ll be good on the wedding day,” Hugo said after some hesitation.

“We can’t take any chances. I think we can put her near the front on the opposite side of the auditorium and—” Julia continued talking, but Hugo stopped listening. He could feel someone behind him, staring. Goosebumps raised on his arms, and his body tensed up as he slowly looked back.

Do you have a favorite scene?

I like the scene where Hugo sees demons and takes off running from them in the middle of Paris, quite literally dragging Julia along with him– but you’ll have to read the book for that.

Callie Carmen

Callie interviewed with me back in March and I’m delighted to have her back. She’s got more things to tell us and I know you’ll enjoy her stories. She’s got some great advice for new authors at the end of the interview too.

Author Bio:

I started in the book business as a bookstore manager which was the perfect place for me since I was an avid reader. After two years, I moved to the corporate office as a buyer and eventually became a senior book buyer. This was a rewarding career that I loved.

Along the way, I decided to become a stay home Mom. I couldn’t give up working around books altogether. I volunteered to run the book fairs in our small farm town, six per year. At the same time, I started and ran, A Child Oasis Company, with the sole purpose of placing a small book library in the homes of all the needy children in the nearby city. As my children became teens, I found I needed more in my personal life than the volunteer Mom for the schools. I sat down at the computer one day and Patrick, book one of the Risking Love series, was born. Book two, Nicolas is now available and receiving five star reviews on Amazon and Goodreads. Joseph book three will be out this fall. My latest writing adventure is Dream Catcher which is a short story as part of the Mystic Desire Anthology.

Tell us about yourself.

First I want to thank Eileen for letting me be part of her wonderful blog. Especially today on the publication day of Mystic Desire Supernatural Anthology including my title Dream Catcher.

I grew up in a small New England town that had one stoplight, with four stores on one side of the road and four on the other. The next village was ten miles away and was where we purchased our groceries. My neighborhood was a twenty-minute walk to town, and there was a farm just down the street. Off the backyard were woods that I loved to explore several times a week.

In the summer, I’d spend every waking moment on the lake that was surrounded by magnificent mountains at my parent’s cottage. When it wasn’t windy enough to take out my small sailboat, I’d be in the rowboat with a fishing pole in one hand and a book in the other. It was heaven on earth.

When did you know you wanted to be an author?

It never even crossed my mind to write not even a short story before I sat down and wrote Patrick book one in my Risking Love series. I was an avid reader, so I had a good base to back me up when I did start writing. No one was more surprised than me when I had my first novel published.

What genres do you like to read?  Are these the same genres you write in?

I used to read pretty much any novel that had something to do with the law. For example, John Grisham novels, but a few years back, I started reading romance books. I’ve been hooked ever since. All of the stories that I have written are romance.

Is your book for adults, young adults or children?

For adults. All of my books are love stories with a happy ending. The lovemaking scenes are hot and spicy.

What is your current release or project?

Tell us about the key characters.

The hero in, Dream Catcher is Jake Miller, a bestselling romance author writing under a pen name. He spends far too much time writing, editing, and marketing his many novels. This has left him pretty much on his own and a bit lonely.

The heroine is Angelica Jennings. She is the hardworking successful owner of an advertising agency. In her free time, she remodels her cottage on the Great Sacandaga Lake or reads a recent novel from one of her favorite romance writers. Now that her company has become successful, she wants to take some time to find Mr. Right.

What is your blurb of the book?

DREAM CATCHER

Long ago, a medicine man had made a matched set of dream catchers as a wedding gift to protect the Chief’s daughter and her warrior husband. He had called upon the benevolent spirits to keep the two soul mates safe and in a loving, healthy marriage.

It was foretold that if the two dream catchers were ever divided the new owners would be drawn together as soul mates. Was that possible?

Dream Catcher by Callie Carmen Excerpt:

The small town of Northville was busting at the seams with town folk and people vacationing at the lake for the Memorial Day weekend. We were about an hour early for the fireworks display, so we sat on the wall of the bridge and talked about everything and anything. By the time he was finished telling me about all the books he had written, several of which I had read, I believed that Jake was indeed my favorite female author, which made me laugh. This big strong man was responsible for some of the most romantic love stories and the hottest lovemaking scenes I had ever read. I found that humorous and delicious at the same time.

I had to remind myself that he wasn’t real—that I was dreaming—but it sure didn’t feel that way. When the fireworks started, he stood behind me with his arms around me and clasped just below my breasts. He leaned down and kissed and lightly bit my earlobe and neck, giving me chills.

“Tip your head back for me, baby. I need to taste you again,” he whispered in my ear.

When his lips met mine, the fireworks going on overhead felt like they were also going off inside of me. I moaned, and he deepened the kiss. This had to be real. I’d forgotten about the others standing around us until shouts of “Fire!” roared out of several of them. We looked up and saw that one of the fireworks had landed on the roof of someone’s home and was burning.

The sirens rang out over their shouts, and I woke once again to my darn alarm going off.

Do you have a favorite scene?

Yes, when Angelica first meets Jake in her dream. It is a sexy and humorous scene.

What advice would you give a beginner?

Social Media: This might not be advice that newer writers want to hear, but it is essential for you to be as successful as possible. Set up your social media sites right away, that means before you even finish your first book. That is not to say that it is ever too late to do this just that it has to be done. If you don’t advertise to let people know about your book, how will they know that it exists? Once they are set up, promote your books regularly. Set up social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Tumblr, Instagram, MeWe, Website, and Goodreads, to name a few. Pick three to start and master those before moving on to others, or you will be too overwhelmed.

Read: Read the genre you want to write in. This is important so you can understand what works and doesn’t work in that genre. Of course, keep reading other types that you enjoy too.

Write What You Know: Write about things you know, you like, and the words will come to you more easily. If you write about something that you are not familiar with be sure to do plenty of research so your story is believable.

Number of Characters: Do yourself a favor don’t have several named characters in your book because as soon as the editor gets their hands on it, you will be editing a lot of them back out again.

Paul DeBlassie III PhD

Paul DeBlassie III came to me through Black Velvet Seductions. His perspective is unique and spiritual.

Author Bio

Paul DeBlassie III, Ph.D. is a depth psychologist and award-winning writer living in his native New Mexico. He specializes in treating individuals in emotional and spiritual crisis. His novels, visionary thrillers, delve deep into archetypal realities as they play out dramatically in the lives of everyday people. Memberships include the Author’s Guild, the Depth Psychology Alliance, the International Association for Relational Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy, and the International Association for Jungian Studies.

Tell us about yourself.

I’m a depth psychologist and writer, treating the deep unconscious mind and writing books about archetypal/supernatural happenings for the past thirty-five years. Stories I’ve lived through with traumatized patients have confirmed the workings of an unseen world, a mysterious zone that’s forever been an influence from childhood to adulthood. The magic of the mystic helped my wife of forty-years, Kate, and I to raise our four children – two phantasmagoric writers and two alchemical artists.

When did you know you wanted to be an author?

Words are a total high, writing like shooting up mind altering energy. Readers have said the dipping into the imaginative worlds in The Unholy and Goddess of the Wild Thing sparks their dreams. It’s the dream world and realms of imagination that called to me since childhood, nudging me into being a therapist and writer.

What genres do you like to read?  Are these the same genres you write in?

What I read is laced with visionary intrigue. They’re the psychically titillating stories that whisper, tell me things about life and the images and symbols of the soul. As far as genre, my reads are visionary/metaphysical, supernatural/occult, and horror. They got the stuff that pops the top off the rule bound and rigid mind.

Is your book for adults, young adults or children?

The supernatural fiction I write is best for adults. But, they have to set aside logic, reason, and let go and relax into the flow of thrills and chills that come out of underworld places. Kids do that easier than adults, our challenge as adult readers is to let the imagination run wild, spend itself out, then contemplate.

What is your current release or project?

Goddess of the Wild Thing breaks into the question of love and whether bad love is better than no love. You’ve got a consciousness oriented narrative replete with archetypal themes of the wise-old woman, the witch, and a man and woman struggling to find their way through a complex and horror-ridden relationship.

Tell us about the key characters.

Eve Sanchez, a professor of esoteric studies, good at mindstuff and not so much with lovestuff hooks up with criminal attorney, Sam Shear—an infamous possessed by the black arts but troubled by Eve, the first woman to ever cast doubt on his compromises and nefarious life.

What is your blurb or synopsis of the book?

Goddess of Wild Things

Winner of the Independent Press Award and the NYC Big Book Award for Visionary Fiction!

Eve Sanchez, a scholar of esoteric studies, is driven into unreal dimensions of horror and hope as she encounters a seductive and frightening man, criminal lawyer Sam Shear.

Sam introduces Eve to a supernatural world in which the wicked powers of a surrogate mother’s twisted affection threaten love and life. Struggling to sort through right from wrong, frightened yet determined, Eve nears despair.

In the magical realm of Aztlan del Sur, a mythopoeic land of hidden horrors and guiding spirits, Eve, with three friends and a wise old woman, is caught in an age-old struggle about love—whether bad love is better than no love— and discovers that love is a wild thing.

Goddess of the Wild Thing reveals the dramatic tale of one woman’s spiritual journey where metaphysical happenings, unexpected turns of fate, and unseen forces impact her ability to love and be loved.

Eve sharpened her focus. She saw the sharp nail of a witch’s right finger tracing Graciéla’s image on a foggy mirror in a grungy bathroom, touching the center of the mirror with a hatred so intense, the glass burned red hot. The mirror in Graciéla’s kitchen cracked. Shards jettisoned at the old healer then were magically warded off and drifted in place about her head and neck.

Graciéla’s energy, tired as she was, had fended off the pointed shards. She hadn’t been impaled. But the strain had ushered her from one world to the next. Death came not by the hand of another but by a weakened mind and body defending itself.

Eve, shaken, allowed her soft touch to stay on Graciéla’s forehead, confirming the horror of what she’d seen. Shamanic wisdom, often discussed between the two kindred souls, spoke to Eve as she stroked her friend’s head, remembering that death provided passage for one whose life had been well spent and whose time had come.

Eve wept.

After a few moments, she closed her friend’s green eyes and whispered tenderly, “Always my friend, always love, always together in life and in death.” She stood and wiped the tears from her eyes. A gray-brown, green-eyed, great horned owl hooted from the largest cottonwood branch outside the back window.

Eve heard Shirley finishing her call to the EMTs and police, and then walking to the front of the store to await their arrival.

One large shard lay at the end of the table, sharp tip pointed outward. It reflected Eve’s image, a glowing red ember menacingly centered at the brow point.

 The Unholy

Haunted by the memory of her mother’s murder, Claire has lived most of her life in fear.

But the Archbishop’s mounting horror compels her to expose the dark side of his religion and face the truth: good is not always what it appears to be.

Confronting Anarch means risking her life and uncovering the closely guarded secrets of her past.

Set in the mystic land of Aztlan, a metaphysical realm of hidden terrors and guiding spirits, The Unholy is a supernatural tale of Claire’s confrontation with destiny as healer and slayer.

Do you have a favorite scene?

Actually, the above scene (Goddess of the Wild Things) leaps right out of an actual metaphysical bookstore in New Mexico and is a favorite. It sets up good and evil smack dab at the beginning of the book. Then, many crazies start up as conflicting energies war and the best woman wins.

What advice would you give a beginner?

If you feel the press to write, then write. Only hit the page when you’re white hot and humming, then the beat and pulse get louder. Keep at it, refine it, do it, and don’t stop doing it!

Tell us about yourself.

Not much to tell.  I have one novel published The Caretaker and a short story in the Mystic Desire Anthology.  Married 51 years, two grown sons and five grandchildren.  I like to read, write, sew, sing and have fun in between.

When did you know you wanted to be an author?

In grade school when we were required to read the poem,

I think that I shall never see

A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is pressed
Against the earth’s sweet flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in Summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.

       — Joyce Kilmer

The imagery and beauty inspired me in a number of ways, first I love trees and second I wanted to write words that would inspire others and touch their hearts.

What genres do you like to read?    Are these the same genres you write in?

I enjoy reading Contemporary Romance, Romantic Comedy, Romantic Suspense, once in a while Erotic Romance and Mysteries.  I write Contemporary and Romantic Suspense.  I could see myself writing mystery.

Is your book for adults, young adults or children?

Adults.

What is your current release or project?

Mystic Desire Anthology, I have a short story included Love that Binds.  Early 2020 I’ll be ready to release Bought and Paid for Fiancé.

Tell us about the key characters.

Ianthee is a young girl, being chased and bullied by classmates.  Ianthee is a quiet girl that loves nature.

Hauck is a sixteen-year-old boy, smart, handsome and athletic. Yet a bit of a loner and has a tender heart.  He comes to Ianthee’s rescue when she falls in the mud.

Share an excerpt

Ianthee pulled the key from her pocket, picked up her bags, walked up the front steps and unlocked the door. As she slowly pushed it inward it squeaked. She heard scratching sounds and a few mice ran out the door. Well, at least there was someone living in the house. She made a mental note to get a cat.

Ianthee trailed her hand along the wall until she found the light switch and flipped it on. Dim bulbs in ancient fixtures came on illuminating the rooms with a dull glow. There were layers of cobwebs and mouse droppings everywhere. The broom leaned on the hearth the way it always had. Picking it up she swatted the cobwebs off the table and placed her bags on it. There was a chill in the cottage and a musty smell that made her shiver. Ianthee left the door open and used the broom to clear away more cobwebs around the hearth and into the kitchen.

As she went about her work, she could hear the taunts of the girls calling her ‘witch’. She’d sweep harder and faster working up a sweat. They would not win this time, she vowed to herself.

She went outside to find a few branches to build a fire in the fireplace. The cottage was inadequate, for now, but she would pull it together. The sun had almost dipped below the horizon, but she managed to get the fire going to heat a cauldron of water for washing up

In the meantime, she went upstairs and see if her bedroom could be slept in.  Her room was to the right and the ‘forbidden room’ to the left. She turned and looked at the closed solid oak door. She heard her grandmother’s voice replaying in her head, “You’re not permitted in there. It’s where we mix the oil to give to those who need it. Some are delicate and strong. I’ll teach you when you’re older.” But she never had. They’d had to leave it all behind.

Ianthee tried the door, but it was locked. She ran to her bedroom and retrieved a long pin she used to collect leaves and things. She knelt down in front of the door and inserted the pin in the keyhole. She turned it one way and then the other until she heard a click.

Holding her breath, she carefully opened the forbidden room door. The door creaked as she pushed it back and with one foot in front of the other stepped into a room covered with dust and cobwebs. Measuring spoons, jars, and pipette on the table. The table and shelves heavy with dust. Bottles of flowers, herbs, and liquids were neatly placed. Cob webs hung in the corners of the room and she brushed away a cobweb hanging from the ceiling and made her way over to the table.

When she was young, her grandmother had taken her to the woods and gardens and told her about the different species of plants and flowers. She remembered how when she and Gram touched them; the plants seemed to come to alive in their hands.

On the table lay a leather journal with a ribbon sticking out at the end. It was Grandma’s magical book containing recipes that Grandma had used to heal people’s ailments. She remembered Grandma’s words about working in the soil. She’d said that the plants took our energy, grew, and then gave back life and healing. Curiosity about the magical book consumed her.

Ianthee hesitated to pick it up for fear that the pages would disintegrate. Instead, she let her fingers delicately caress the front of the book. The sensation of someone with her in the room gave her goosebumps as if granny herself was there.

She held the ribbon and eased the book open. The heat of excitement bubbled up within her. Grandma used to tell her stories of a special love potion. She had always believed it was fantasy and her grandmother teasing her about love but there was also professional curiosity.

Ianthee flipped through a few pages and read in awe. Mrs. Trotter’s bladder cancer showed signs of improvement after rubbing Frankincense on her stomach as well as the pressure points at the bottom of her feet twice a day. We also suggested she put 3 drops under her tongue. It tastes awful but does her good. There were more cases, documented in Grandma’s careful hand.

Do you have a favorite scene?

I have several.  I like the beginning when they meet. And the end because it takes them back to where they met.

What advice would you give a beginner?

No matter how hard the writing gets, the frustration, the lack of confidence… don’t give up.

Kristen Collins

Kristen Collins and I met because someone was being unpleasant on social media. Because of her kindness, we started talking and one thing led to another. While the unpleasant person is nearly forgotten but I met this lovely author.

Author Bio

I’m a Native Texan, born and raised close to the heart of the great Lone Star State. I was born in January of ‘89 and was able to grow up during a great time. I honestly don’t consider myself a Millennial, and really dislike that title.  I’m a part-time secretary and a full-time mother and wife, as well as a Lupus Warrior.

Having Lupus means living my life indoors, and the sun is my arch-nemesis, my personal kryptonite. I want to leave a legacy behind, something my kids could one day look back on and say, “yeah my mom did that.”

Thanks to the encouragement of friends and family, I found a passion for writing paranormal romance books. Anything in the realm of fantasy usually suits my novels and tends to be able to reach a large audience in multiple genres. Most of my story ideas come to me in the most unexpected times and places, such as my dreams. They will plague me nonstop until I sit down and write it out.

I like to explore new types of characters such as Sandmen and Boogeymen, for example. I enjoy creating all the facets of their own worlds, such as in A Sandman’s Forbidden Love.

God has blessed me with success that I never imagined was possible, which allows me the freedom to explore and create with intense focus in paranormal fiction. Now, I know Shifters aren’t real but Angels are another story. So Angels are also a part of my focus and research. I will often sit on the computer doing extensive research on both Sandmen and Angels, trying to learn as much as possible about them. In addition to fiction, I create Art Journals that are cross generational from thirteen to ninety years young. My goal, with these types of books, is to reach people who need that extra encouragement and quiet reflective stillness that journaling can bring into their lives.

When did you know you wanted to be an author?

I have Lupus and about three years ago, I wasn’t able to work. I was under house arrest with this disease because as it has progressed over the years, I am not able to go outside during the day, or work as much as I once did. I was struggling with depression and guilt, because to me this is not who I had planned to be.

I always had these crazy dreams that made absolutely no sense at all. Being an avid reader, I started wondering if I had it in me to write a story too. Just one story, to test my theory. My dreams supplied all these awesome plot ideas and as I began exploring these stories in my head, I realized that I felt called to be a writer. The story ideas began to pour out of me like a river, and then I figured out how to stop and listen to my character’s stories. Then I  just fell in love with the entire process and couldn’t stop until their stories were on the computer screen.

What genres do you like to read?  Are these the same genres you write in?

I read a lot of Paranormal Romance stories. It’s my absolute favorite genre! Yes, I do write quite a bit of my stories in Paranormal Romances but I also write Fantasy and Christian Fiction too.

Is your book for adults, young adults or children?

This book is definitely for eighteen year olds and older, there’s a lot of death mixed with some love in this story.

Goldilocks Excerpt:

Prologue: Mr. Smiley

I crashed into the grove of trees, taking half of them down with my jabberwocky body. Too weak to maintain my shifter form, I transformed back into my human side. In the distance, I could hear the shout of triumph from the White Queen’s army. The battle was over and Asyra was dead.

I sat up and popped my neck in annoyance, I needed to get back to my lab and get out of here. There was no way I could continue to hide away in this land with the Red Queen gone.

“Damn pest.” I grumbled as I stood up and dusted my body off.

I snapped my fingers to clothe myself. The magic from this place came in handy at times like this.

I looked around and gathered my surroundings. Okay, I’m in the Shadow Forest.

The darkness surrounded all around me as the fog crept along the forest floor. In the distance, I could see the Shadows floating through the trees looking for their next soul to harvest.

A whimper sounded behind me so I turned around and limped to investigate who it was. Moving the brush aside, I saw Asyra crumpled on the ground bleeding.

“Jekyll.” She coughed and blood spluttered down her lips. “My love… help me.” She begged as she reached out towards me.

I examined her body from head to toe, and it was clear, her back was broken. Had the experiments worked, she would already be healing from the injuries. What a waste! I thought.

I walked over to her and looked down at her in utter disgust, “Oh Asyra… What a complete and utter disappointment you turned out to be.”

Her eyes widened, “What do you mean? I did everything you asked!”

“Tsk tsk tsk… I told you to kill Nyssa the minute she entered the realm but you just had to play your little game of cat and mouse with her. And now look at you… You’re as pathetic as the day I found you crying on the chess board.” I said as I squatted down to her.

“You said you loved me!” Asyra cried grabbing onto my ankle.

I shrugged standing up and turned to walk away, “I did when I thought the experiments worked, but you’re just another failed result. That’s okay, I found the perfect specimen a long time ago. The tests have all come back conclusive, she’ll be just like me.”

Asyra laughed causing more blood to come up and choke her. “She’ll never love you. You’ll fail just like you’ve failed here. You’ll always be a failure.”

Anger arose in me at her words, I could feel my other side taking over as I let the rage consume my soul. My eyes changed in vision as I was no longer Jekyll but Mr. Smiley.

I jerked back around and stormed to her, kneeling down beside her, “She will be mine!”

My hand covered her mouth and nose as she began to squirm underneath me. I watched as her eyes widened with fear but within a matter of minutes I felt her life slip away.

I stood back up and walked in determination towards my lab, giving myself over to the other side of me that heals so quickly. I found the large oak tree that has been my home for so many years and reached down into the dead leaves pulling open the door that lead below ground.

Jumping down into my lair, I grabbed my to-go bag and then started stuffing all my files in. The trumpets sounded in the distance and the roars of the jabberwocky clans rang throughout above me. They were coming to find me, I needed to leave and now.

I walked back to the wall that held all of Sunny Goldilocks pictures. I gazed at them all and my need started to burst through me.

Running my hand over a shot of her face, I vowed; “Soon we’ll be together, my love. Not long now, I’m coming and I will make all your pain and mine go away. I will make you perfect and you will never have to live with this pain again.”

Walking over to the standing mirror I placed my hand on it to activate it. Pumping Asyra’s blood into me, helped to trick this looking-glass portal. The mirror started to wave as a hospital closet came into view, I walked through it with my destiny full steam ahead.

What advice would you give a beginner?

My advice to other new authors is to do your research in ALL areas of the book world, especially when looking for editors, cover designers, and even publishing houses. Get references from other authors, become a part of the book world community because you will find the best advice from them.

Her latest work is a contemporary fiction, The Belonging.

Leanne lives and works out of her home in the Central Tablelands of Australia, she loves cooking, gardening and the great outdoors.

When did you know you wanted to be an author?

I’ve always enjoyed writing and can’t remember a time I haven’t written. I wrote my first short novel, Wobbles – The Wonderful Dog, when I was 9 years old. In 2014, after years within management I decided to write and publish my first major novel; Pages Of Your Life – The Secret Life Of Shirley Rumming. Since then I have averaged one novel per year, except for a period after my father passed away. There’s no surprise that when we experience loss, particularly a death that we see the world differently. My paper people as I like to call my characters went to sleep, and I took priceless time out for family. It was during this period that I decided to write The Belonging; a story about life, one involving loss and grief, hopes and dreams, faith and miracles.

What genres do you like to read?  Are these the same genres you write in?

When it comes to reading, I am open minded as I believe books are like people, they all have something to offer. Although I do favour contemporary fiction, probably because they depict our world and society, embracing diversity and reflecting different cultural views.

In regards to my writing, while there has been a persistent sentiment among publishers and agents in the traditional publishing world to stick to one genre, I have not pigeon-holed myself. My stories are about personal experience. My first novel, Pages Of Your Life – The Secret Life Of Shirley Rumming was historical fiction and formed the basis for my, “Secrets Trilogy.” I’ve also written mystery, thriller, suspense and contemporary fiction. Why? Because stories about life are varied, stories about life can’t be pigeon-holed.

Is your book for adults, young adults or children?

My latest book is generally for adults and young adults. It’s a journey of understanding that deals with issues most can relate to; death, confronting personal problems and coming to understand yourself.

What is your current release or project?

My latest release is a contemporary fiction, “The Belonging.”

Tell us about the key characters

The story is centered around four unforgettable characters who are entwined in each other’s lives, yet somewhat lost in their own. The broken-hearted, the manipulative and the unsuspecting souls continually searching and yearning for answers.

We all want to love and be loved. We want to be safe. We want our loved ones to be safe. Some people simply want money and are guided by materialistic possessions, but all of us want acceptance and a sense of belonging.

Robert, the protagonist is grieving after the death of his wife and struggling to come to terms with everything. This story is about his journey in discovering the truth and meaning of his own existence. Will he find peace, and understanding?

What is your blurb or synopsis of the book?

You never know who, or what, will change your life until it happens.

After the death of his wife, home health care worker Robert Jackson must re-evaluate his life in Sydney. Facing an uphill battle with grief, he contemplates suicide.

However, his wife’s best friend Shirley won’t let him give up. But how well does he really know this caring neighbour? And what about the eccentric recluse and the pretentious middle-aged woman whose path he is destined to cross? Appearances can be deceiving.

The Belonging is a story of four broken souls thrown together by chance and one man’s journey to discover the truth and meaning of his own existence.

Elsie leaned forward with her hands flat on the table and fingers fanned. “You need to accept your loss of Julie, and release yourself from this blame, otherwise it will consume you. You need to let it go.”

Robert’s eyes widened; obviously shocked by the forcefulness of her words. Taking a deep breath, it was time for a change in tone. She touched his hand again. This time, Robert didn’t pull away. Instead he sat still, staring eyes filled with tears.

She leaned closer. “I don’t say this to be harsh, I have known loss and the finger of condemnation has firmly pointed towards me. For years the hands of darkness strangled my hope, and I was haunted by the demons from my past. But this is life. No one is perfect.” She paused and shook her head. “We are our own worst cynics, and while we cannot change what has happened or forget the pain and sadness we have endured, we must learn to forgive.” She paused again and gently squeezed Robert’s hand. Robert nodded as tears flowed.

Elsie wiped her nose and sniffed back her sadness. “Forgiveness is incredibly powerful, Robert, it doesn’t mean condoning, excusing or forgetting. Forgiveness opens our hearts to hope and peace, self-forgiveness allows us to move forward.”

Robert pulled his hand away and readjusted his tie as he straightened himself on the chair. Picking up the napkin he recommenced his folding.

Elsie leaned back and smiled. “Birds.” She picked up her teacup and chuckled.

“What?” Robert placed the napkin onto the table, pushing his hand on top he pressed on his folds.

“You and I are like two injured birds, you want to fix my wings so I can glide through life,” Elsie said, taking another sip of her tea and smiling over the rim. The corners of her lips rose. “At my age and with my condition, gliding would be a wonderful gift. But I have to be realistic. The best this little birdie can expect is to hop and flutter. Maybe I’m an injured canary.” She paused placing her teacup back on the saucer.

She gazed into his eyes. “But for you, Robert, you are young, your wings may have been damaged and you may have crashed, but your wings can be repaired.” Elsie gave him a small smile. “For you, recovery is possible. You are an eagle, strong with a powerful heart. You, young man, can fly. You can glide and soar. You just have to have the courage to spread your wings. Looking back is holding you back. You need to look forward, to the horizon. Have faith, and you will take off.”

Elsie didn’t expect Robert would respond, that wasn’t what she wanted. Her only hope was he would listen, that he would take on what she believed was so vital. Her biggest fear was he would leave for the day and never return.

Do you have a favorite scene?

My best-loved scenes involve the discussions and interactions between Robert and Elsie. Elsie is older and wiser and has a different perspective on life.

What advice would you give a beginner?

Write about things you know and can relate to. Never give up on your dreams. Never throw what you’ve written away, an undeveloped idea from today may turn into a masterpiece at a later stage.

Suzanne Smith

Suzanne is another author who contributed to Mystic Desires from Black Velvet Seductions. She’s a fellow Midwesterner so that’s lovely!

Author bio

I grew up on the northwest side of Chicago. I attended Wells High School, then North Park College, where I graduated with a BA degree, my major in psychology. Currently, I live in River Grove, a small suburb just outside of Chicago. My days are spent managing a very busy dental office in Chicago’s Gold Coast area. My nights are mostly quiet ones, spent in the company of my two rescue cats, Zilly and H.K., and my dog Sammy, with an occasional night out with friends.

Tell us about yourself

I grew up on the northwest side of Chicago. I attended Wells High School, then North Park College, where I graduated with a BA degree, my major in psychology. Currently, I live in River Grove, a small suburb just outside of Chicago. When I retire from my day job in a dental office, just a few short years from now, I plan on doing a lot more writing and traveling. I’m fascinated by ancient Rome and would love to make the Colosseum my number one stop.

When did you know you wanted to be an author?

After I started taking online writing classes with a great teacher, Laurie Sanders. I could not believe how challenging it was to write a good love scene or a death scene. Or, for that matter any scene at all. But, when I finally got a scene right, it felt like a big accomplishment. That spurred me to continue as well as to strive to be a better storyteller.

What genres do you like to read?  Are these the same genres you write in?

I read pretty much any genre. I currently write dark and paranormal romance.

Is your book for adults, young adults or children?

Adults.

What is your current release or project?

I have a short story titled The Mortal Vampire in the Mystic Desire Anthology (to be released by BVS in October).

Tell us about the key characters

Remy is a cocky and remorseless vampire who loves the hunt and the kill. At least until he meets the mortal Angela. Angela is a young woman who is sweet and gullible on the surface but fiercely passionate underneath. Giselle is Remy’s vampire girlfriend, unforgiving and at times secretive. Dr. Merlot is Remy’s maker, very wise and one of the most powerful vampires in the world.

What is your blurb or synopsis of the book?

Remy enjoys life as a vampire, never giving a thought to sucking every last drop of tasty blood out of his unfortunate victims and leaving them door nail dead. But his cold and carefree existence changes the day he crosses paths with the beautiful and mysterious mortal Angela.

“Since it is hard for you to walk, perhaps I should carry you,” I said aggressively, my bold over the top proposal birthed out of the need to touch her. It wouldn’t surprise me if she told me to fuck off.

‘I don’t want you to hurt yourself,” she said seemingly unfazed.

It took all my energy to suppress a snicker. I guessed she weighed no more than 120 pounds soaking wet. I could probably pick her up and carry her all the way home using only my baby finger. “I am very strong. No need to worry.”

“Ok,” she said shyly, stepping closer to me and turning ever so slightly to her left. “I’m ready when you are.” She reached up and looped her arms around my neck, locking her fingers together behind me.

“Lean back,” I murmured as I gathered her delectable frame in my arms, using great care to be as gentle as I could when I swept her off her feet. Once we started walking, she tightened her arms around my neck.

“This is nice,” she said, laying her head on my shoulder.

As a strong gust of night wind blew in our direction, the delicious smell of her blood hitched in my nostrils. I wasn’t prepared for that nudge from nature reminding me of who I was. What I was. My arms tightened around her body. I felt my fangs begin to erupt. I imagined how her blood would taste as I ripped open her throat and gorged myself on the precious red nectar, all the way down to the last drop. Maybe I couldn’t fuck her but I could claim a part of her after all.

“You don’t have to hold me so tight Remy,” she said as she looked up at me with effervescent blue eyes. “I won’t fall.

As much as I wanted her blood, I couldn’t bear the thought of seeing those beautiful eyes still and lifeless.  Part of me liked that she was so trusting and relaxed in my company. But the bigger part of me wanted to reprimand her for her naivety. It had almost gotten her killed tonight.

My steps slowed to almost a snail’s pace. I was taking advantage of every moment I had with her, savoring the warmth of her sweet flesh pressed against mine. Disappointment flooded me as I set her down on the top stair of her porch landing. “Well here we are.”

“Yes.” She said as she backed out of my arms. “Thank you Remy. You are my hero.”

“I’ve been called a lot of things but never a hero.”

She unexpectedly pulled me close and pressed her lips against my mine. I felt a flush rise to my cheeks. There it was a second time. That frightful but exhilarating thump in my chest. My hands shook as I pushed her away. I was not accustomed to being the seduced. I had always been the seducer. She had turned the tables and I wasn’t sure I liked it.

“Don’t be afraid of me.” She whispered as she lifted her gaze to mine. “I will not hurt you.”

Do you have a favorite scene?

I’d have to say when Remy learns from Dr. Merlot the truth of what is really happening to him. I can’t elaborate without giving too much of the story away.

I’m intrigued…
What advice would you give a beginner?

Write. Write. Write.

Angel Nyx

Angel Nyx and I met through social media. She’s doing a beautiful thing – she’s put her book on sale for 99 cents and will be donating the proceeds for September and October to Breast Cancer Research Foundation!

Author Bio

Angel Nyx writes in multiple genres, including Paranormal, Contemporary, and Historical Romance, Romantic suspense, and Urban Fantasy. Her passion for literature was instilled in her at a young age when her mother read her fairy tale stories at bedtime. Her vivid imagination helps her get in tune with her characters to bring them to life for her readers.

She was once told that her ‘OCD is queen’ because it allows her to find errors in written word others miss. As a result, she has recently branched out to offer her proofreading services to other Indie authors.

When she’s not working or writing,  she’s usually reading, gaming, listening to music, or finding new authors to fall in love with.

 Tell us about yourself.

I’m a mom, a Nana, and a furmomma, but don’t ask me which I like more because I’ll plead the fifth! I like to call myself an OG Gamerchick because I’ve been gaming since my daddy brought an Atari home way back in 1977. I know, I know, I’m dating myself! Let’s see, I’m very outspoken about the things that matter most to me, sometimes to the point that I have been called blunt and abrasive, I tend to wear my heart on my sleeve, and I am unabashedly retro. I’m a huge fan of Star Wars and Harry Potter and a lover of all things LOTR. Part of my pen name comes from the tattoo I have on my left shoulder. It says ‘Angel’ in Tengwar cursive, which is the script used on the One Ring in LOTR. A lot of people, when they find out, are surprised to learn that I suffer from marked hearing loss. I lost the hearing in my left ear at the age of three and over the years the hearing in the right has gotten damaged due to having to try to compensate.

When did you know you wanted to be an author?

I’ve loved to write since I was a teenager. Back then I wrote poetry, and right before I started becoming a mom I wrote a book that was almost finished, but life happened and I lost everything I’d written. It took close to 30 years to finally pursue this dream, but I’m glad I finally did it.

What genres do you like to read?  Are these the same genres you write in?

I read a variety of genres. Paranormal romance, urban Fantasy, Contemporary Romance, Romantic Suspense, Crime Thrillers, Murder mysteries, even Horror. It all depends on my mood. The only genres I don’t write in are crime thrillers, murder mysteries, and horror.

Is your book for adults, young adults or children?

Adults. Definitely adults!

What is your current release or project?

Well, it’s not a current release, per se, as it came out in February, but it’s a special project for me. I wrote Whispers of Hope as an homage to the women and men—past, present, and future—who face breast cancer and all that comes with it. With October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I decided to put it on sale for 0.99 for September and october and donate proceeds to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

The fear in Emma’s voice, the terror in her eyes, had me reaching for her. I pulled her close and just held her. “You’re not going to die, Emma. And you’re not going to have to face this alone.” I could feel her shaking as my arms enfolded her and it brought my protective nature to the forefront. I just wanted to take care of her and make her feel safe.

“I know. I’ll have Kate, but…”

“I’m not talking about Kate. I’m talking about me. I’ll be right there, holding your hand, every step of the way.”

“I can’t ask you to do that, Griffin.”

“You’re not asking me to. I’m offering. I’m not letting you face this battle alone.” My hand lifted to caress her cheek. “We’ll get through it together.” There was no way in hell I was letting her face this battle by herself.

“I’m still not sure I understand this. You’ve never – not a single time – shown any interest in me before.”

“That’s where you’re wrong. You’ve just never noticed it before, Emma. I’ve watched you from day one.”

“I’ve been coming here for five years. Why now? If you’ve watched me for so long, why did it take you five years to make your move?”

“I’ve been in the scene for almost two decades, Beautiful. I learned, over the years, that I can often be too intense for those who don’t have any experience playing with others. I made the decision to not play with inexperienced submissives. To not get involved with a woman who has little to no experience.” There was a reason behind that but tonight wasn’t the time to get into it.

“What changed?”

“You’ve gotten some experience. I watched the scenes you and Seth have done. I know you can handle my intensity.”

“I can handle anything you can dish out.”

The cheeky grin she gave me made me chuckle. “That’s my girl.”

“Your girl? I think I kinda like that idea.”

“If you want to be. There is a lot for us to discuss. What do you say we get you dressed and get out of here? We can go somewhere neutral and talk things over.”

“That sounds like a great idea.”

There was a sincerity in her voice that told me she was being genuine. It was so damn refreshing.

Do you have a favorite scene?

I think my favorite scene in the book is one that takes place after the heroine, Emma, has had a double mastectomy. When she looks at herself, she doesn’t see a beautiful woman anymore. She’s dealing with so many emotions from the surgery, along with recovering from chemo and radiation, and the hero, Griffin, decides that he needs to show her she is still beautiful to him. He does it by loving her, by touching her with reverence. it’s such a moving scene.

What advice would you give a beginner?

First, don’t be afraid to ask questions. There are no dumb questions, because we have all been there at some point. Second, find your tribe. For some of us, that can take awhile, but you need to find those people—fellow authors as well as fans—who will have your back. Third, learn everything you can. This goes back to asking questions, but there is more to it than that. If you’re writing about a specific area/culture, research. If you’re using a language you don’t speak yourself, DO NOT use google to translate it. Find someone in the writing community who knows the language. Otherwise, you risk having incorrect translations and angry readers.

Don’t be afraid to step outside the box when deciding to write about a particular trope. When I decided to write my shifter series, I knew I wanted to focus on them as people first, shifters second. This isn’t the norm among shifter books. They tend to be more animalistic. It was the same with my Mafia series. My mobsters aren’t cold, unfeeling monsters. They’re vicious toward their enemies, but with their families and the women they love they’re loyal and passionate. I also did this with my demons in my Hellfire series.

Also, you don’t have to ‘write what you know’, but write what you love. If your passion is in reverse harem, write it. Do you love MM or menage? Write it! Don’t be afraid to let your passions guide you!

Kimberly McKay

Kimberly and I met on a group and had a wonderful conversation off the group with both of discussing different options for marketing.

Author Bio

Kimberly’s first book, Finding Kylie, was published in 2008. It received numerous positive reviews and was converted into a screenplay, with the help of award-winning film producer, John Schwab. They are now in the process of making their final edits before hitting the film market.

Subsequently, she’s released five more books: Facing Redemption, Coming Home, Saving Grace, Second Chances, Endless possibilities and Dangerous Visions. The first four of her books are a part of The Forgiveness Series. Second Chances is her only standalone novel. While Endless Possibilities and Dangerous Visions begins The Spiritual Gifts Series.

Currently, Kimberly is getting ready to release the third book in the spiritual gifts series. Blind Instincts should release by the end of 2020. Kimberly also has a new faith-based script she’s shopping out called ‘Miss Givings.’

Tell us about yourself.

I’m a military brat who has lived overseas and from coast to coast. I’ve been in Oklahoma City for close to 30 years. I’m happily married with one son. I’m a screenwriter as well as an author.

When did you know you wanted to be an author?

I have been a storyteller since I could pick up a crayon and draw. I knew I wanted to be an author when I won the ‘best author’ award for my school district when I was asked to enter a writing contest by my teacher. I wrote my first book, won the award, and was hooked.

What genres do you like to read? Are these the same genres you write in?

I prefer clean reads without graphic sex scenes or too much language. I love romantic suspense and contemporary romance. I enjoy a good mystery from time to time. I am a multi-genre author, so yes, I also write romantic suspense. I also write Christian fiction, paranormal romance, and family saga. My latest release also falls into the action-adventure category.

Is your book for adults, young adults or children?

My books are for those that are 16+

What is your current release or project?

My WIP is the third book in my Spiritual Gifts Series. Blind Instincts is halfway done but by no means close to being done. We all know we will write, re-write and write again. I also have three original scripts that I’ve been shopping out. One of my books is optioned which means it’s under contract for a film but still hasn’t found funding yet. It may get produced – or it may not. Either way, it’s an honor that someone wanted to try.

Tell us about the key characters

Agent Anderson Evans is the All American male, yet under all the layers he’s built for himself he is tender-hearted. If I had to give him a motto – it would be ‘I’ll die trying.’ He’s hardworking, thrives off adrenaline, and truly loves his job. He and his partner are more like brothers, and he loves his family as every good son should. Savannah Miles is a feisty ‘I am female hear me roar’ girl with a soft spot for the underdog. She’s tough but tender but doesn’t let most people in to know that about her. She’s a successful entrepreneur with a secret penchant for singing and is as directionally challenged as they come.

What is your blurb or synopsis of the book?

After awakening from a coma, Agent Anderson Evans struggles to see things clearly as visions plague him throughout the day. The only way to distance himself from his premonitions is to ride cross-country, where he is free from the intermittent flashes that appear from the occasional touch in the crowd. If only he could avoid the reoccurring vision of a woman struggling to survive, but she haunts him as if calling to him.

Savannah Miles never expected that by taking on another bridal client, she’d be signing her death warrant. She soon finds herself caught up in an elaborate underworld that has her fleeing for her life under the dark of night. After barely escaping with her life, Savannah calls her cousin for help, who arranges for a bodyguard. Only she didn’t expect anyone like Anderson and didn’t have a clue that the two of them would be in over their heads.

Could Anderson’s visions become the divine intervention they need to overcome the curse in their lives? Or will the pair run out of luck, out of time, and find themselves at a dead-end?

Savannah would never forget the day she stepped into the dimly lit club. The music vibrated so loudly, it pulsated within her chest as well as everywhere else throughout her body.

A bright purple haze illuminated the stage as a young girl who couldn’t have been more than seventeen, slid to her knees to give the front row a show. When Savannah saw her, her mouth dropped.

“See something you like?” She heard a raspy voice from behind.

Although he intended to sneak up on her, the stench of stale beer and cigars gave him away. Savannah spun to face him, thinking he must have been at least seven feet tall. His square jaw and crooked nose gave him the appearance of an extreme fighter.

“No. I’m here for Jade.” Savannah cleared her throat.

When he said nothing in reply, Savannah pursed her lips and waited. His gaze slid down her body as if he were memorizing every detail.

Her first instinct was to flee to her car for safety, but she stood her ground, refusing to let him intimidate her.

Finally, he nodded toward a dark hallway to the left. “Back there. Third door on the right. Don’t enter the one on the left. It’s off-limits.”

Savannah nodded and backed away, eager to put as much distance between them as possible. As she turned toward the back of the club, he grabbed her by the arm and spun her around.

Do you have a favorite scene?

I have many favorite scenes. Because Anderson is a spy – I had to create all sort of fantastic gadgets and figure out how they applied to the storyline. Each scene where I inserted something that was completely made up but could be a reality became my favorite scene. Invent something new and inserting into a storyline was so fun.

What advice would you give a beginner?

To never give up! And when the time is right – and you’re just about ready to publish find a set of beta-readers to help you polish, give you critical feedback, and push you to get better.
